Born as a Tujia nationality, he graduated as a doctorate from China University of Geoscience. He used to be the curator of Guangxi Museum of Natural History and Anthropology Museum of Guangxi. Now he is the permanent researcher of Anthropology Museum of Guangxi and professor of Institute of Cultural Heritage, Shandong University. Area of research/interest: Paleoanthropology and Paleolithic Archeology, vertebrate paleontology, Broader research interests include the Quaternary geology, chronology, taphonomy, and evolutionary theory.

He has extensive Paleoanthropological fieldwork experience in south China, and expedition in East Africa, Europe, and East Asia. His current major research projects include Pliocene-Pleistocene paleoanthropology at Bubing basin, Paleolithic Archeology in Bose basin, and mammalian fossil investigation at karst cave in Guangxi,south China. His publication consists of more then 30 papers in academic journals, including Science, Journal of Human Evolution, Chinese Science Bulletin, Acta Anthropologica Sinica and so on.
